Are you passionate about making a difference for students at Nottingham Trent University?

Nottingham Trent Students' Union (NTSU) is recruiting up to three Student Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of your Students' Union as we launch our new strategy.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills, gain experience of governance and strategic decision-making, and ensure that the student voice is at the heart of everything we do.

You do not need previous trustee or governance experience. We're looking for students from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, courses and communities who are interested in helping NTSU succeed.

What does a Student Trustee do?

Student Trustees are volunteers who are part of NTSU's Board of Trustees, the group responsible for the overall governance, strategy, and long-term success of the Students' Union.

Working alongside elected student officers, external trustees and senior staff, you'll help to:

  • Set the strategic direction of NTSU
  • Review and approve key policies and plans
  • Oversee finances, risks and performance
  • Ensure NTSU operates effectively and in the best interests of students
  • Bring your perspective and experiences to important discussions and decisions

Trustees do not manage the day-to-day operations of the Students' Union. Instead, they focus on the bigger picture and helping NTSU achieve its goals.

Who are we looking for?

  • Want to develop as leaders

  • Care about the student experience
  • Will contribute positively to discussions and decision-making

We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds, identities, courses, campuses and levels of study. As part of our commitment to ensuring our Board reflects the diversity of the students we represent, we are particularly keen to hear from students whose voices and perspectives are currently underrepresented in governance roles.

Time Commitment

  • Prepare by reading meeting papers sent 1 week in advance.
  • Attend Board meetings throughout the year (4 meetings which are 2 hours long each plus an annual Board away day).
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Serve on one of the Board's 2 core committees (4 meetings which are 2 hours long each).
  • Finance, Commercial, & Audit Committee or
  • People, Compliance, & Environment Committee

Meeting dates

Our Trustee Board takes place 10am – 12pm, the dates for 2026-27 are;

  • 21 October 2026
  • 16 December 2026
  • 10 March 2027
  • 26 May 2027
  • 17 June 2027 (Board Away Day)

Second Stage: Interviews for those shortlisted - 1 October 2026

First Board meeting: 21 October 2026 10:00am - 12:00pm
